Ashgabat: Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov met with Nenad Popovic, Serbia’s Minister of International Economic Cooperation, to discuss economic cooperation focusing on trade, textiles, construction, and the export of polymers, fertilizers, and agricultural products.
According to Trend News Agency, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality and International Neutrality Day. Popovic highlighted Turkmenistan’s status as a leader in Central Asia, being the fourth largest in the world in natural gas reserves, and noted its substantial oil reserves. Beyond energy, Turkmenistan offers opportunities for collaborative projects across multiple industries, including agriculture, construction, and engineering technologies.
The discussions emphasized a partnership based on mutual respect, equality, and shared benefits. The possibility of establishing a Joint Intergovernmental Commission was also explored. Additionally, the meeting highlighted the successful collaboration of Turkmenistan and Serbia on international platforms, particularly within the United Nations, where both countries consistently support each other and co-author significant initiatives.
Earlier, in October, political consultations took place in Belgrade between the Foreign Ministries of Turkmenistan and Serbia. The Turkmen delegation was led by Deputy Minister Gurbanov, while State Secretary Damjan Jovic headed the Serbian delegation. These talks involved a constructive exchange of views on key issues, underscoring the importance of regular political consultations and the need to enhance the bilateral legal framework.
