London: Hull City secured promotion to the Premier League after beating Middlesbrough 1-0 in the English Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium in London.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Oli McBurnie scored the winning goal in the 90+5th minute, giving Hull City the final available promotion spot for next season’s Premier League. Hull City joins Coventry City and Ipswich Town, who had already earned direct promotion after finishing in the top two places in the Championship. Hull City became the third and final team to move up through the play-offs.
The final, played in front of 84,506 fans at Wembley, remained goalless until stoppage time. Hull City started the match cautiously, while Middlesbrough pushed forward from the wings in the opening 20 minutes, looking to create chances in the penalty area. However, Middlesbrough struggled to find space against Hull City’s defense.
In the 24th minute, Coyle sent a header toward goal at the back post, but goalkeeper Brynn pushed the ball away for a corner. Hull City then had a chance in the 38th minute when Millar was left one-on-one with the goalkeeper after a quick attack, but Brynn came off his line in time to clear the danger.
Belloumi, who had helped Hull City reach the final with a goal against Millwall in the second leg of the semifinal, tried his luck from distance in the 43rd minute, but his shot went wide. McBurnie came close in the 45th minute, heading Giles’ cross from the left onto the top of the crossbar.
