Baku: The activation of the Turkic Investment Fund (TIF) in the first quarter of 2026 is set to strategically influence Azerbaijan’s economy by co-financing projects with regional capital and attracting international investors.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, D¡vid Bir³, Senior Advisor and Coordinator of Hungary’s Ludovika Center for Turkic Studies, emphasized the importance of TIF focusing on renewable energy, transport, logistics infrastructure, and the development of the non-oil sector in Azerbaijan.
Bir³ highlighted that Azerbaijan plans to introduce 6 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030, with 4 gigawatts designated for European export through multiple green-energy corridors by 2032. Additionally, the completion of the Zangezur Corridor by spring 2026 is expected to add 15 million tonnes of annual export capacity, significantly boosting the transport and logistics sector. These areas align with the TIF’s mandate, promoting regional integration and economic growth.
Beyond capital supply, Bir³ pointed out a structural opening that emphasizes the importance of operational expertise and market entry. Hungarian firms in the Turkic region bring EU regulatory experience, infrastructure modernization skills, and credibility in both Eastern and Western markets. This expertise enhances returns on invested capital and facilitates greater economic integration.
Bir³ further elaborated that the TIF can serve as a prototype for new cooperation forms, acting as a co-financing platform that draws international investors and partners. By coordinating regional value chains rather than operating as a conventional development bank, TIF positions itself as a vehicle for sustainable partnerships, encouraging international and European investors to follow Turkic capital’s lead in developing long-term collaborations.
