Transit route development plays key role in CIS infrastructure – President of Kazakhstan

MOSCOW: The effective trade and economic cooperation of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries is closely linked to the development of transport corridors, President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev said at a limited meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS countries in Moscow, Trend reports.

According to him, Kazakhstan has already started a large-scale expansion of its railroad infrastructure on major international routes.

‘Last year I proposed to develop a concept of interfacing the main transportation arteries running through the territories of the CIS member states. I think this work could be completed as soon as possible. In general, qualitative synchronization of such global projects as ‘One Belt – One Road’, ‘North-South’, the Trans-Caspian route, and others will allow for building a unified concept of economic, institutional, and transport development on the Eurasian continent,’ Kasym-Jomart Tokayev noted.
