Baku:Tens of thousands of people went missing during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as stated by Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Minister for Human Rights and Refugees, Sevlid Hurtic, during a panel session at the 4th International Conference. This event was part of the Baku Dialogue on Missing Persons.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Minister Hurtic remarked that both Azerbaijan and Bosnia and Herzegovina have encountered significant challenges related to missing persons.
He stressed the importance of making archives open and accessible. “Information that could help a family should not remain ‘captive’ in the archives of any institution or under the influence of any political interest,” Hurtic said. He advocated for all documents, records, maps, and pieces of information that might assist families in locating missing members to be accessible to relevant institutions.
Hurtic also called for cooperation between institutions, the exchange of information, the interconnection of information systems, and the readiness of states to create opportunities for collaboration in the search for missing persons.
