Baku:As artificial intelligence systems increasingly gain the ability to make independent decisions, the need for robust oversight of their activities is becoming more pressing, according to Hannes Astok, Executive Director and Chairman of the Management Board of Estonia’s e-Governance Academy. He made these remarks at the 8th Summit of Information Security Leaders.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Astok highlighted that while traditional cybersecurity systems are designed to protect information systems from external threats, the rise of AI introduces the challenge of managing the operations that these systems are permitted to perform.
Astok stressed that as AI systems become more autonomous, the governance surrounding them must be fortified. This involves ensuring reliable identification, access management, and comprehensive monitoring, logging, and auditing of AI operations.
He also emphasized the importance of tracking the actions of AI agents to ensure they remain within their authorized boundaries. A key aim of the European Union’s digital strategy, Astok noted, is to develop large-scale trust mechanisms, which include the single market, cross-border services, digital identification, and data protection.
