Statements Regarding Torture of Azerbaijani Captives by Armenia Announced in Court


Baku: An open court hearing held at the Baku Military Court addressed the criminal cases against several Armenian citizens accused of committing crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, and numerous other offenses as a result of Armenia’s military aggression against Azerbaijan. The session, presided over by Judge Zeynal Agayev, involved the accused, their defense attorneys, victims, and state prosecutors.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the trial’s proceedings included statements from victims who were unable to attend the session due to valid reasons. Victim Azad Kamal oglu Tahirov recounted being tortured by a police officer named Maxim while in captivity in Armenia. Tahirov described a harrowing incident where a revolver was pointed at him and fellow captives in a deadly game, resulting in the death of Tagi Bayramov.



Talib Azim oglu Tagiyev testified about being tortured by Armenian military personnel after being stopped near the village of Havuslu in 1991. He identified his torturers, and recounted brutal treatment during his captivity. Ilham Jabir oglu Agayev shared his experience of being wounded and taken captive by Armenian forces, enduring torture in multiple locations during his detention.



Victim Vahid Garoglan oglu Rahimov described severe torture endured during his captivity following the occupation of Khanlyg village by Armenian forces in 1993. Rasim Mammadov recounted his experience of being taken hostage and subjected to torture after being injured by shellfire. Nazim Shakir oglu Abdullayev shared details of his captivity, where he was brutally beaten and tortured.



Ilham Allahveren oglu Rahimov’s testimony highlighted the casualties and injuries suffered during the occupation of Garadaghly village. Niyyat Binnet oglu Ahmadov detailed the tragic fate of his family and neighbors, who were fired upon while hiding in a cave, and the subsequent torture they endured while held captive.



Solmaz Damir gizi Aliyeva recounted being taken hostage during the attack on Shusha in 1992, where she and her family were beaten and detained without food. Gadir Imamgulu oglu Mammadov shared his escape from captivity after enduring torture. Atraba Ahmad gizi Aliyeva and Arif Gudrat oglu Azizov provided testimonies about the attacks and subsequent captivity they faced during the Khojaly events in 1992.



The court session concluded with the announcement of other victims’ statements, with the trial scheduled to continue on October 24.
