Baku: Speaker Sahiba Gafarova has expressed strong disapproval of a recent resolution adopted by the European Parliament, labeling it as biased and contradictory to international law principles. This resolution, she argues, is yet another instance of unfounded accusations against Azerbaijan, failing to represent the actual conditions within the country. Gafarova voiced these concerns during a parliamentary session on December 19.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Speaker Gafarova emphasized that the resolution disregards essential principles such as respect for state sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs. She firmly rejected the document’s language, which includes references to alleged political prisoners, political persecutions, and violations of academic freedom and cultural rights. Gafarova asserted that Azerbaijan is committed to the rule of law, the independence of state institutions, and accountability to its citizens. She highlighted the independent functioning of democratic institutions and the development of civil society as evidence of Azerbaijan’s dedication to progressing along the path of democracy.
