Tbilisi: SOCAR has submitted project documents for the expansion of the Kulevi terminal located on the Black Sea coast to the Environmental Control Department of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the project involves the construction of four new cylindrical steel tanks, each with a capacity of 20 thousand cubic meters. This expansion aims to increase the terminal’s loading and unloading capacity for fuel and oil products to a total of 80 thousand cubic meters.
Furthermore, the project includes the construction of a two-way railway overpass to facilitate the efficient unloading of oil products from tank cars. In compliance with Georgian legislation, SOCAR has also submitted an environmental impact assessment report alongside the project documents. The Environmental Control Department is tasked with reviewing the document and subsequently issuing the necessary permits for the construction of the new facilities at the terminal.
The Kulevi terminal currently consists of six reservoir parks, and this expansion is part of SOCAR’s development strategy. The Kulevi oil terminal has been in operation since 2008, with expansion plans announced earlier this year in April.
