Astana: A project implemented in partnership with SOCAR aims to expand Uzbekistan’s energy sector by producing not only gas but also oil, said Bahodirjon Sidikov, chairman of Uzbekneftegaz, Trend reports.
According to Trend News Agency, speaking at the opening of the KAZENERGY Eurasian Forum in Astana, Sidikov emphasized that despite Uzbekistan’s historical deficiency in substantial hydrocarbon reserves, the petroleum sector has consistently been a pivotal component of the national economic framework. Hydrocarbon and refined petroleum derivatives imports continue to constitute a significant segment of the nation’s import portfolio.
Sidikov highlighted that in the Ustyurt region, there is emerging potential for extracting liquid hydrocarbons. He noted that oil has traditionally laid the groundwork for energy transition, preceding gas and other energy sources. Consequently, Uzbekistan continues to prioritize oil projects.
He also pointed out advancements in drilling technology, revealing that the average well depth in Ustyurt reaches approximately 5,000 meters. Previously, drilling a well of this magnitude would have consumed nearly a year, approximately 300 days. Today, with the aid of modern technology, new equipment, and knowledge exchange with partners, the same drilling task is accomplished in just two months. This accelerated process allows new fields to be operational much quicker than in the past, presenting a significant advantage in current conditions.
