SOCAR Open to Proposals for Baku-Supsa Oil Pipeline Utilization

Baku: SOCAR has announced its readiness to consider proposals from potential partners for the use of the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline. Rufat Gambarov, Head of Business Development at SOCAR Midstream Operations, made this declaration during the ‘Caspian and Central Asia Oil Trading and Logistics Forum’ organized by GLENMAR Group, as reported by APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Gambarov noted that oil transportation through the Baku-Supsa pipeline is currently suspended due to existing circumstances. Nonetheless, the route continues to be appealing to oil producers and traders.

Gambarov explained that the specific characteristics of the oil provide a competitive edge for companies with oil refineries along the Black Sea coast. This is particularly relevant for refineries in Bulgaria and Romania.

He further emphasized the strategic importance of the route, considering the chemical composition of the oil and the infrastructure available for its refining. Gambarov expressed confidence that the factors hindering current operations would eventually change. In anticipation of this, SOCAR Midstream, representing SOCAR, is prepared to evaluate proposals from potential partners for future use of the pipeline on behalf of the country.
