SOCAR Carbamide Joins Global Lighthouse Network of World Economic Forum

Baku: SOCAR Carbamide has been admitted to the prestigious Global Lighthouse Network of the World Economic Forum and has also been awarded the Forum’s Digital Lighthouse Award.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the award was presented to Mikayil Jabbarov, Chairman of SOCAR’s Supervisory Board and Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan. This achievement marks international recognition for the successes in digitalizing production, implementing advanced technologies, and improving energy efficiency at the plant.

SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf highlighted the significance of this recognition, stating that it underscores SOCAR’s transformation agenda and showcases how digital technologies and advanced automation can enhance performance while reducing environmental impact. He emphasized the plan to continue scaling these capabilities across SOCAR to set new benchmarks for safe, efficient, and sustainable operations.

The SOCAR Carbamide’s recognition comes after three years of systematic transformation and innovation-oriented activities. Initially shortlisted among the finalists in 2025, the plant underwent on-site evaluations by World Economic Forum experts, leading to its admission to the Global Lighthouse Network and receiving the Digital Lighthouse Award. This makes SOCAR Carbamide the first plant in Azerbaijan to achieve this feat and the world’s first fertilizer plant to receive this distinction.

Previously, the Digital Lighthouse Award had been presented to SOCAR Petkim Petrochemical Complex and SOCAR STAR refinery. The recognition of SOCAR Carbamide further cements SOCAR’s position in adopting advanced technologies related to production efficiency, process safety, and HSE. The SOCAR Carbamide has implemented 42 digital and artificial intelligence-based solutions aligned with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, resulting in significant improvements in productivity, natural gas efficiency, carbon emissions, and process waste reduction.

The Global Lighthouse Network, established in 2018, serves as a platform for companies that effectively apply Industry 4.0 technologies. Membership provides organizations with opportunities for experience sharing, meetings, and establishing new partnerships, contributing to operational efficiency and reduced environmental impact.
