Khankendi: Over the past two years, following anti-terror measures, significant construction and reconstruction efforts have been undertaken in the energy sector of Khankendi, Khojaly, Aghdara, and Khojavand, as directed by the head of state. These efforts have been spearheaded by AzerEnergy, focusing on revitalizing and enhancing the region’s energy infrastructure.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, urgent repair and restoration work at the 50 MW ‘Sarsang’ Hydroelectric Power Plant, which had been neglected during the period of occupation, has been completed. The plant was successfully commissioned in early October 2023. Additionally, several small hydroelectric power plants, including ‘Hasanriz’ (10 MW), ‘Toragay-1’ (3 MW), ‘Toragay-2’ (5.9 MW), ‘Toragay-3’ (5 MW), and ‘Toragay-4’ (0.8 MW), located in the Aghdara district, have been repaired, restored, and reconnected to the grid.
In alignment with the Karabakh Energy Strategy, modern energy infrastructure has been developed in the region. A fully enclosed 110/35/10 kV ‘Khankendi-1’ substation has been constructed to ensure stable power supply in Khankendi, with a 12 km double-circuit line laid from the ‘Shusha’ substation and a 1.8 km section supplied via underground cable. Additionally, underground cable tunnels have been established from the ‘Khankendi-1’ substation towards the ‘Aghdam Junction’ and ‘Hasanriz’ substations.
Local residents have been trained and employed in the Khankendi Network Area, integrating the community into the ongoing development efforts. A third circular energy supply line has been created towards Kalbajar, with new 110 kV lines laid along the Dashkasan-Kalbajar and Kalbajar-Gorchu routes, and a 16.7 km line completed along the Kalbajar-Hasanriz route to Aghdara.
Furthermore, the construction of the 14.7 MW ‘Gozlukorpu’ Small Hydroelectric Power Plant on the Tartar River has been finalized, with construction and installation completed and final adjustments currently underway.
