Shahmar Movsumov: Azerbaijan’s Digital Initiatives Boost Potential of Middle Corridor

Baku: Azerbaijan attaches particular importance to integrating transport, energy, and digital infrastructure within the framework of the Middle Corridor project. Shahmar Movsumov, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Department of Economic Issues and Innovative Development Policy of the Presidential Administration, highlighted these efforts during a panel discussion on “Middle Corridor and Eurasian Connection Gateway,” part of the 13th Global Baku Forum.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Movsumov shared that the Trans-Caspian Fiber Optic Cable project is set to deliver high-speed digital connection of up to 300 terabits per second between Asia and Europe. This initiative aims to strengthen regional digital integration. Furthermore, he noted the establishment of the ‘Digital Single Window’ system under a decree by President Ilham Aliyev. This system consolidates import, export, transit, and logistics procedures on a unified electronic platform, facilitating integration with neighboring countries.

Movsumov emphasized that these digital initiatives are positioning Azerbaijan as a strategic regional hub, not only for cargo and energy flows but also for information exchange and digital connectivity.
