Baku: The captain of a Russian ship encountered a health emergency while navigating the Caspian Sea and was swiftly rescued and transported to a hospital, the Press Center of the State Border Service confirmed to APA.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the State Border Service’s Coast Guard Command remains vigilant in monitoring maritime traffic and conducting rescue operations in the Caspian Sea. On February 19, the Coast Guard and Border Control Commands responded to an emergency alert concerning Captain Zhelyazkov Andrey Stepanovich of the Russian-flagged cargo ship POLA ANFISA, which was situated within Azerbaijan’s territorial waters.
In response to the alert, a border patrol vessel was promptly dispatched to the specified coordinates. The rescue team successfully reached the cargo ship and evacuated the captain, who was then given initial medical assistance. Following this, he was safely transported to Zira Port and subsequently transferred to M.A. Afandiyev City Clinical Hospital No. 2 for further medical supervision.
