Romania ready to supply Azerbaijani gas to Moldova, says minister

Romania is ready to supply Azerbaijani gas to Moldova, said the country’s Minister of Energy Sebastian Burduja, Trend reports. Speaking at a conference organized by the Romanian National Committee of the World Energy Council (CNR – CME), he pointed out that Romania is set to navigate the cold season relying solely on its domestic gas reserves. Burduja mentioned that Romania is well-prepared for winter, with its gas stock reaching almost 103 percent, including both stored reserves and ongoing production. “In the event of specific requests from neighbors like the Republic of Moldova, Romania has contingency plans in place. If necessary, Romania can activate the secured option established with Azerbaijan last spring, providing access to an additional one billion cubic meters of gas. Furthermore, to meet any potential shortfall, Romania has the flexibility to import liquefied natural gas through two routes: either via Greece – Bulgaria – Romania or through Trkiye – Bulgaria – Romania,” the minister said. On F
ebruary 3, 2023, SOCAR, Azerbaijan’s state oil company, and Romgaz S.A., Romania’s energy company, signed a gas supply agreement during the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council’s meeting in Baku. The agreement outlines the transportation of 1 billion cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan to Romania from 2023 to 2024. This contract builds upon previous agreements signed by the two companies on October 9 and December 16, 2022, which established the legal framework for energy relations between Azerbaijan and Romania.
