KHANKENDI: A new academic year has officially begun, a development that brings pride, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev told Trend on the first day of school at school No. 4 in Khankendi.
He noted that schools in Shusha and Khojaly had opened a week prior, and today marks the start of the academic year at Garabagh University and School No. 4 in Khankendi.
‘Tonight, we will also inaugurate the Turkish-Azerbaijani University.
We aim for Garabagh University to become one of the leading institutions in science and education. All of this progress has been made in a very short time. Over 500 children are currently enrolled in schools in Khankendi, and I am confident this number will grow in the coming weeks. I believe a second school will also be opened here, depending on student enrollment.
There are plans to open a medical faculty at Garabagh University. There are also plans to build a research hospital here. If everything goes according to plan, we will see first-year students of
medical universities next year,” the minister added.
To note, a total of 1,104 students were admitted to Garabagh University in the 2024/25 academic year, and the admission plan was 98.5 percent filled. Of the students admitted to the university, 101 scored more than 600 points and 385 scored more than 500 points. The highest result was recorded in the specialty ‘jurisprudence’ (683.8 points). One applicant, who became the winner of the Olympiad, was admitted to the specialty ‘engineering in the field of electrical and electronic engineering’ of the University out of competition. In general, the average score of admission to Garabagh University for I-IV groups of specialties amounted to 467.6. In addition, in the first academic year, ‘SABAH’ groups were organized at Garabagh University in the specialties of ‘law’, ‘teaching of foreign languages’ (English), finance, and accounting.
