Baku: Renowned cardiovascular surgeons from more than 20 countries around the world will gather in Baku for the 9th International Congress of Baku Heart Days, dedicated to the memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. Organized by the Azerbaijan Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, the event will take place from May 16-18, 2025, at the Gulustan Palace.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Congress aims to advance the field of cardiology and cardiovascular surgery in Azerbaijan by facilitating discussions with international experts and exploring the latest medical innovations. Approximately 400 cardiologists and cardiac surgeons from 20 countries will address pressing issues in cardiovascular diseases and their treatment during the event.
Notable attendees include Prof. Dr. David Taggart from the United Kingdom and Prof. Dr. Shigeyuki Ozaki from Japan, who will participate as honorary guests. The Congress will also feature a live broadcast of heart surgery from the operating room.
The Congress program includes an expert meeting on EVAR-TEVAR, a mitral valve repair and surgical anastomosis course for young surgeons and residents, and training for nurses and perfusionists on May 16. Subsequent days will feature 21 scientific sessions discussing the latest developments in cardiovascular healthcare, with contributions from the Turkish Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, and the Azerbaijan Society of Reanimatologists-Anesthesiologists.
The event will also host a Summit of the Turkic World Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, established last year in Turkey by the Azerbaijan Society of Cardiovascular Surgery. Recognized as a Continuing Medical Education (CME) event by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, participants will earn 20 CME points.

Scientific articles and abstracts from the event will be published in the ‘Azerbaijan Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery,’ listed among periodic publications approved by the Supreme Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Since 2009, the Azerbaijan Society of Cardiovascular Surgery has organized the International Congress of Baku Heart Days biennially in honor of National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
