Prospects of LNG terminal, attractive for SOCAR, will be discussed in Albania in September

Europe is accelerating the creation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals to solve energy security problems, and one of such projects is the “Vlora-LNG” terminal in Albania, on which significant progress is being noted. An informed source told Turan that in mid-September, the “Vlora-LNG” economic model will be submitted to the Albanian government for consideration, in the creation of which Azerbaijani “SOCAR” is also participating together with American and European partners. The “Vlora-LNG” project involves the American company “Excelerate Energy” (interested in delivering liquefied natural gas to the port of Vlora), Italian “Snam” and Spanish “Enagas” (participants of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) – the European segment of the Southern Gas Corridor) and Albanian “Albgaz”. According to “Excelerate” estimates, the first phase of the project concerns the deployment of one “FSRU” (floating LNG terminal-vessel) with a volume of 138,000 cubic meters, the modification of the berth, as well as the creation of a 350 MW power plant in the Albanian city Vlora (it will be able to operate on the delivered gas). Also, it is planned to lay a gas pipeline from “Vlora -LNG” to TAP (docking in the Albanian city of Fieri, may cost 40 million euros), which will connect the two gas infrastructures for their efficient operation. “The details will be worked out until September and presented to the Albanian government in mid-September. SOCAR, as a TAP shareholder and a strategic partner of the friendly Albania gasification program, is directly involved in this work,” the source said. Recall that SOCAR is also preparing a gasification project for the Albanian city of Korcha, the feasibility study of which may be ready by the end of 2023
