Shusha: Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan recently reviewed the construction progress of the New Shusha Mosque. The inspection took place on September 16, with both leaders taking a keen interest in the ongoing development of the religious site.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Anar Alakbarov, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, provided a detailed briefing to the presidents on the project’s progress. The New Shusha Mosque, whose foundation was laid by President Aliyev in 2021, is poised to become a major architectural feature in Shusha, a city with significant historical value.
The mosque’s design, influenced by President Aliyev’s vision, includes symbolic elements such as the number 8, commemorating Victory Day, marking Shusha’s liberation. Additionally, the two minarets are designed to resemble the number 11, representing the liberation of Shusha and Karabakh in November. The mosque’s exterior is planned to feature geometric patterns inspired by Shusha’s historic mosque minarets, further enhancing its cultural significance.
