President of Azerbaijan Urges U.S. Congress to Repeal Section 907

Baku: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has called upon the United States Congress to repeal Section 907, describing it as a relic of the past and completely absurd in the current geopolitical context. In a recent interview with local television channels, President Aliyev highlighted the significant changes in Azerbaijan-U.S. relations following the Trump administration’s rise to power, noting that relations have reached a new level.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, President Aliyev emphasized that the reasons for maintaining Section 907 are obsolete. He pointed out that goods are flowing from various locations to Armenia through Azerbaijani territory, with roads opened and Azerbaijani petroleum products being exported to Armenia. He argued that the historical justification for Section 907, which was based on a blockade, is no longer valid.

President Aliyev expressed hope that the Trump administration would leverage its influence to persuade Congress, particularly Republican members, to abolish the amendment. He stressed that there are ample grounds for optimism regarding the repeal of this outdated legislation, which he believes no longer reflects the current realities of the region.
