Baku: Azerbaijan is expanding its reach in the global energy market, exporting natural gas to 16 countries, including 10 European Union member states. President Ilham Aliyev highlighted this development during an interview with Euronews television in Davos. He emphasized Azerbaijan’s unique position as the sole energy-exporting nation in the Southern Caucasus region. While Azerbaijan exports energy resources, neighboring countries like Georgia and Armenia rely on imports from Azerbaijan.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev noted the growth of Azerbaijan’s energy cooperation with Europe and the European Union. He stated that Azerbaijan holds the top position worldwide in terms of geographical coverage of pipeline gas. The country’s extensive transport system and modern pipelines facilitate this reach, allowing Azerbaijan to fortify energy security for its European partners.
The president also pointed out the strategic benefits for Azerbaijan in selling resources in premium markets. Although Europe is not the sole market for Azerbaijan’s gas, the country has begun exports to Syria as well. However, Aliyev remarked that the European market remains the most lucrative in terms of pricing.
