President Ilham Aliyev Meets with UN-Habitat Executive Director to Discuss World Urban Forum Preparations


Baku: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev recently met with Anacl¡udia Rossbach, the Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), to discuss preparations for the upcoming 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum, APA reports.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Anacl¡udia Rossbach expressed her admiration for the preparations underway in Baku, highlighting Azerbaijan’s innovative approaches to organizing the prestigious event. She conveyed her gratitude to Azerbaijan for its efforts and voiced confidence in the country’s capability to host a successful forum. Rossbach also noted the significance of Azerbaijan hosting the World Urban Forum shortly after the COP29, emphasizing the country’s role in bridging two of the UN’s largest platforms.



President Ilham Aliyev thanked Rossbach for her remarks and assured that Azerbaijan has taken all necessary steps to ensure the event’s success. He mentioned his recent review of the preparations at the Baku Olympic Stadium and expressed optimism about the forum yielding substantial results. Aliyev also highlighted Azerbaijan’s exemplary experience in urban planning and post-conflict reconstruction, expressing the country’s willingness to share this expertise with other nations.



The discussions also covered Azerbaijan’s support for the UN-Habitat Programme and explored future cooperation prospects. Following the meeting, a Letter of Intent was signed between Azerbaijan’s State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture and UN-Habitat. This document aims to develop operational guidelines for future World Urban Forum sessions, based on the standards set by the WUF13 preparations in Baku, to enhance the efficiency of upcoming forums.
