Baku: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received a delegation led by Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The meeting took place on October 29, where discussions focused on the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Speaker conveyed greetings from the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to President Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan. Saqr Ghobash noted Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s fond memories of his recent visit to Azerbaijan, specifically mentioning his trip to Shusha and his meeting with President Aliyev in September.
The Speaker commended the organization of the international parliamentary conference celebrating the 30th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s Constitution, describing it as a testament to the country’s dedication to constitutional values and sovereignty. He also highlighted Azerbaijan’s development, attributing it to President Aliyev’s policies, and expressed admiration for Baku’s architecture.
President Aliyev expressed his appreciation for the greetings and requested that his own be conveyed to the UAE’s leadership. He reminisced about his meetings with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi, Baku, and Shusha, praising the UAE’s development as a result of the late President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s policies.
Reflecting on the historical ties, the President recalled the pivotal meeting between National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the late UAE President during the 1994 Casablanca Summit, which laid the groundwork for the countries’ current relations.
Saqr Ghobash congratulated President Aliyev on achieving peace in the region and the normalization of Azerbaijan-Armenia relations. President Aliyev acknowledged the congratulations, noting the transition to peace after Armenia’s occupation of Azerbaijani lands and emphasized ongoing efforts to secure lasting peace and improve transport links, especially through the TRIPP corridor.
The meeting also addressed the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the UAE, highlighting joint investments in renewable energy and cooperation between SOCAR and ADNOC, underscoring the robust development of relations in various sectors.
