President Ilham Aliyev Inaugurates Restored Historic Mosque in Aghdam’s Giyasly Village

Aghdam: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the inauguration of the restored historic mosque in Giyasly village, Aghdam district. Anar Alakbarov, Assistant to the President, provided a briefing on the restoration efforts.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Giyasly mosque, which suffered extensive damage during the Armenian occupation of Aghdam, was restored under the guidance of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. The mosque, used as a cattle shed during the occupation, lost its roof and domes. Restoration efforts commenced in 2022 following Aghdam’s liberation, utilizing archival materials to preserve the mosque’s original design.

The restoration included the reconstruction of twin minarets, restoration of tilted stone columns, and repair of stone arches and domes. The mihrab was restored, and facade stones were cleaned with special agents. Additionally, auxiliary buildings were added. The mosque has been recognized as a locally significant historical and cultural monument since 2001 by the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan.
