Aghdam: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has inaugurated the Aghdam Railway and Bus Terminal Complex. The event marked a significant development in the region’s transportation infrastructure, as reported by APA.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, during the inauguration ceremony, Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev and Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Rovshan Rustamov provided President Aliyev with details about the ‘Barda-Aghdam Railway Line’ project. This project includes the construction of the Barda-Aghdam-Khankendi railway and the Khankendi Railway and Bus Terminal Complex.
The foundation for the Aghdam Railway and Bus Terminal Complex was laid on October 4, 2022, with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva. The complex is intended to be a strategic infrastructure project to support Aghdam’s development as a modern city.
The newly constructed railway station is designed to accommodate between 800 and 1,000 passengers daily, while the bus terminal is expected to serve 1,300 to 1,500 passengers per day. The facility will operate as an integrated transportation hub, providing essential services to travelers.
Spanning approximately 8 hectares, the complex includes various amenities such as waiting halls, ticket offices, a library, shops, entertainment zones, a restaurant, and relaxation areas. Both train platforms and designated bus stops have been made easily accessible for commuters.
Additional infrastructure of the complex comprises service buildings for different types of vehicles, a passenger platform, above-ground parking lots for small to large-capacity vehicles, platforms for intercity and intra-district bus routes, bicycle stands, a park, and electric charging stations for electric vehicles.
The inauguration event concluded with the departure of the first symbolic passenger train on the Barda-Aghdam railway line, marking the operational commencement of this vital transportation project.
