Baku: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev sent a congratulatory letter to Pope Leo XIV on the occasion of his Inauguration Day, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the letter expressed President Aliyev’s congratulations to Pope Leo XIV both personally and on behalf of the people of Azerbaijan. He emphasized the positive trajectory of relations between Azerbaijan and the Holy See, which are based on mutual respect and understanding. These ties aim to promote interfaith harmony and cultural diversity globally, fostering an environment of mutual trust between civilizations.
President Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan’s status as a center of multiculturalism, where ethnic and religious diversity is protected and equal conditions are created for all confessions. He noted the construction of a new Catholic church in Baku as an example of interfaith harmony and the country’s tradition of tolerance.
The letter also underscored the long-standing cooperation between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Holy See. Restoration work in the Vatican supported by the Foundation was mentioned as a contribution to intercultural dialogue and the preservation of religious and cultural heritage, demonstrating Azerbaijan’s commitment to universal human values.
President Aliyev acknowledged Pope Leo XIV’s contribution to developing sincere dialogue and cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Holy See.
