President Highlights Grave Landmine Threat in Azerbaijan at UN Assembly

New york: ‘One of the gravest humanitarian challenges facing Azerbaijan in the post-conflict period is the threat posed by landmines planted during the time of Armenian occupation,’ President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated during his speech at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, President Aliyev highlighted that since November 2020, over 400 Azerbaijani civilians and military personnel have been killed or seriously injured due to landmine explosions. He emphasized that this widespread contamination not only endangers lives but also hinders the safe return of displaced persons and delays crucial reconstruction projects.
