Davos: President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan declared the restoration of justice, international law, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, leading to peace, during a panel session titled ‘Defining Eurasia’s Economic Identity’ in Davos. APA’s correspondent reports from Davos that President Aliyev emphasized these achievements in his address, reflecting on the arduous journey of Azerbaijan over the past three decades.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev discussed the peace process with Armenia following 30 years of conflict. He highlighted the severe challenges faced by Azerbaijan, including the loss of territories and the displacement of one million people. Despite these hardships, Azerbaijan maintained its determination to restore justice and sovereignty, a mission that spanned 30 years. President Aliyev expressed disappointment in international institutions, noting that resolutions by the United Nations Security Council and documents by the OSCE demanding Armenian troop withdrawal remained unfulfilled. The situation changed, he said, only when Azerbaijan decided to take matters into its own hands, achieving peace and restoration of territorial integrity.
President Aliyev also stressed the importance of making the responsible decision to halt the conflict. He acknowledged the potential for continued warfare and suffering, stating that the leadership of both Armenia and Azerbaijan decided to stop the conflict and embrace peace. This decision, he noted, was crucial to closing the chapter of war and moving towards new opportunities for peace.
