Patriotic War Victim Recounts Captivity Ordeal at Baku Military Court

Baku: During the ongoing proceedings at the Baku Military Court, victim Sharif Aliyev recounted his harrowing experience of being injured and captured in the Khojavand district in November, during the 44-day Patriotic War in 2020.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Aliyev testified that he was severely beaten and subjected to torture while in captivity. He revealed that he was initially wounded in the chest and both legs before his capture. Aliyev described how he was moved to another location, later identified as Yerevan, where he was coerced by Armenian soldiers to repeat phrases in Russian and Armenian. His refusal led to him being shot in the right foot.

In response to questions from defendant David Babayan, Aliyev shared that prior to his capture, four of his fellow soldiers were killed, and another soldier was severely injured. His injured comrade was subsequently killed by Armenian militants, while Aliyev was taken captive.

Further answering questions from defendant Davit Ishkhanyan, Aliyev stated that after his release, he received medical treatment at a clinic in Ganja city. He was handed back to Azerbaijan on December 15, 2020.

The court proceedings continue against Armenian nationals accused of various crimes, including war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and violations of the laws of war. Additional charges include financing terrorism, violent seizure and retention of power, and other serious offenses.
