Baku: The Commission on Foreign Interference and Hybrid Threats of the Milli Majlis has issued a statement regarding UAV attacks on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of the Republic of Azerbaijan from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the statement reveals that on March 5, 2026, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from Iran attacked the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. One UAV caused damage to the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, while another fell near a school in Shakarabad village, Babek district, resulting in injuries to four civilians.
The Commission views the targeting of the airport and civilian infrastructure as a violation of international law and an act of aggression against Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. The Commission characterizes the incident as a hybrid attack operation involving military, political, and informational components.
Additionally, the statement highlights an information campaign within Azerbaijan’s social media that supports Iran’s activities and spreads manipulative ideas. The Commission believes these attacks aim to create confusion and fear among citizens, undermine trust in public institutions, and damage Azerbaijan’s regional position and international reputation.
Azerbaijan reserves the right to take appropriate retaliatory measures in accordance with international law. The Commission calls on Azerbaijani citizens and compatriots abroad to trust the strength of the state and rely on official information.
