Panel Session Explores Sustainable Media Practices Amid Global Information Threats

Baku: Within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States Media Forum, a panel session dedicated to the topic ‘Sustainable and preventive measures against growing global information threats in the modern era: on the example of the media ecosystem of the Turkic states’ was organized, APA reports. The session brought together foreign experts to discuss collaborative efforts among OTS countries to combat disinformation, enhance media literacy, and explore strategies for developing a sustainable and secure media ecosystem across Turkic states.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the session featured insights from Natiq Mammadli, Deputy Executive Director of the Media Development Agency. Mammadli highlighted the dual nature of artificial intelligence in media, acknowledging its potential threats if misused, but also its opportunities. He stressed that AI cannot match human creativity and pointed to recent challenges, including the creation of misleading fake videos. Mammadli called for proactive measures to address such negative impacts.

Additionally, Dauletkhan Zhienkulov, Deputy Director of Kazakhstan’s ‘Khabar’ agency, addressed the delay in transitioning to a common Turkic alphabet. He cited the complexities involved, such as the vast amount of Cyrillic-based literature and information. While artificial intelligence could assist in this transition, Zhienkulov noted the political and other dimensions at play, with philologists actively engaged in the process. He expressed hope for a resolution in the near future.

Throughout the session, experts underscored the significance of enhancing cooperation in the media sector among Turkic states with shared historical and cultural backgrounds. They advocated for the establishment of unified media standards and the promotion of mutual experience exchange to effectively address contemporary challenges.
