Panel Discussion Focuses on Genocide and Sovereignty in Western Azerbaijan


Baku: A panel discussion titled “National memory’s call to sovereignty – Genocide and Western Azerbaijan truths” was held within the framework of the “Constitution and Sovereignty Line” initiative, APA reports. During the event, Kamala Hashimova, Deputy Head of the Sabail District Executive Authority, asserted that the tragedies endured by the Azerbaijani people, including genocides and ethnic cleansing, will never be forgotten.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Misir Mardanov, Chairman of the Western Azerbaijan Community’s Monitoring Council, emphasized in his speech that the Azerbaijani people have been repeatedly displaced from their historical lands. Aziz Alakbarli, Chairman of the Western Azerbaijan Community’s Board, Member of Parliament, and Associate Professor of Philology, noted that the idea of return to Western Azerbaijan is, first and foremost, an integral part of Azerbaijan’s national ideology.



The panel then proceeded with discussions. Mahira Huseynova, member of the Western Azerbaijan Community’s Board, Head of the Gushchu District Community, and Professor of Philology, spoke about the toponyms in Western Azerbaijan territories that were altered by Armenians.
