Baku: Renowned Kazakh poet and public figure Olzhas Suleimenov has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize: KazTag reported, citing the press service of the Baytag Green Party, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the nomination was initiated due to Suleimenov’s founding of the ‘Nevada-Semey’ anti-nuclear movement, which has been instrumental in promoting peace worldwide. Suleimenov’s efforts have not only impacted Kazakhstan but have also contributed significantly to international peace initiatives.
His historic role in the Nevada-Semey movement was pivotal in the closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site. This achievement was complemented by his initiative and Kazakhstan’s diplomatic efforts, leading to the shutdown of four major nuclear test sites, including one in Nevada, USA. This has been recognized as a substantial contribution to global security.
