Oslo: The Norwegian publication Geopolitika has published an article by Zaur Ahmadov, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Denmark, detailing Azerbaijan’s recent accession as a full member of the Central Asia Consultative Meeting.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the article describes this event as historic, signifying a new era of cooperation in Eurasia. The decision, made on November 16 in Tashkent, adds a new dimension to regional interaction, as Azerbaijan and Central Asian countries form a united strategic space connecting Asia and Europe.
The article emphasizes the strengthening ties between Azerbaijan and the Central Asian region through the Organization of Turkic States. This partnership, based on historical, cultural, and linguistic connections, as well as economic and political interests, is now evolving to a new level.
Ahmadov highlights Azerbaijan’s strategic position as a bridge between Central Asia and Europe. He notes the significant increase in cargo transit through Azerbaijan, attributed to the development of the Middle Corridor, the modernization of the Port of Baku, and the expansion of transport infrastructure. This growth has enhanced the route’s significance for Europe.
The ambassador further underscores the collaboration with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan in sectors like energy, transport, and digitalization. He calls for unified logistics and customs standards to expedite trade and boost the Middle Corridor’s global competitiveness.
In his conclusion, Ahmadov views the formation of a ‘platform of six states’ as a beacon of stability, mutual respect, and independence for the region. He considers the Tashkent decision timely and strategically sound amidst the evolving global geopolitical landscape.
