New Wave of Ex-IDPs Return to Girmizi Bazar Settlement in Khojavend

Baku: A new wave of former internally displaced persons (IDPs) has returned to the Girmizi Bazar settlement in Azerbaijan’s Khojavend district, where they have received keys to their newly allocated homes.

According to Trend News Agency, the families were welcomed by officials, and employees of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) informed them about the potential dangers of mines and unexploded ordnance in the area. Residents were advised to avoid unfamiliar objects and report any suspicious findings to the relevant authorities.

The key handover ceremony saw attendance from officials of the Special Representative Office of the President of Azerbaijan in the Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavend districts, as well as representatives from the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, among other dignitaries. The families expressed their happiness as they received the keys and began settling into their homes.

At this stage, 16 familial units, comprising a total of 55 individuals, are reintegrating into their ancestral settlement. The families had been displaced for over three decades due to the Armenian incursion into the district and had been residing temporarily across various parts of the country, including dormitories, sanatoriums, and administrative buildings. All necessary conditions have been established for the families to comfortably settle in their homes.
