Baku:The 8th Congress of the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) took place at the Heydar Aliyev Center, with President Ilham Aliyev, who also serves as the party’s chairman, addressing the event.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, the congress is a significant event in Azerbaijan’s socio-political landscape, with the party’s decisions impacting both the nation and the broader South Caucasus region. The congress, convened at least every five years as per the party’s charter, holds the authority to elect the party chairman and other key positions, amend the charter, and set the party’s strategic direction. This gathering also serves as a platform for discussing future tasks and strategies, such as increasing military power, enhancing economic stability, and continuing the restoration of regions like Garabagh and East Zangezur.
Founded at a conference in Nakhchivan in 1992, under Heydar Aliyev’s leadership, YAP has seen Ilham Aliyev elected as chairman in successive congresses since 2003. The party continues to focus on economic independence, strong military capability, and maintaining its international standing amidst changing global conditions.
