Mobile Phones to Be Classified as POS Terminals in Azerbaijan

Baku:Mobile phones in Azerbaijan are set to be recognized as Point of Sale (POS) terminals, as per new legislative developments. This change is outlined in a proposed amendment to the Law “On Electronic Commerce,” which was discussed in the Milli Majlis, the country’s parliament.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, the current legislation defines a POS terminal as equipment used for transactions with payment cards and cash withdrawals. The draft law broadens this definition to include mobile devices equipped with the necessary software for cashless payments, including contactless payments, and cash withdrawals. These devices will be recognized as POS terminals if they can receive mobile services via telecommunications networks.

The draft law was voted on and approved in the first reading during the session.
