BAKU: “By 2030, the volume of emissions from the information and communication technology (ICT) sector could reach up to 8% of the global total,” Minister of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan Rashad Nabiyev stated during his address at the High-Level Roundtable on the Green Digital Action. The Minister emphasized the crucial role digital technologies play in today’s world, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Minister pointed out that the ICT sector is currently contributing between 1.5% and 4% of global emissions. He further explained that research indicates these emissions could surge to eight percent by 2030. In light of these findings, various countries have been implementing measures to optimize their data centers. These measures have led to an impressive reduction of up to 40% in energy consumption, achieved through the adoption of innovative cooling technologies and energy management systems.
The Minister stressed that green digital action represents a
pivotal step in aligning digital advancements with climate action. By focusing on energy-efficient practices and technologies, the ICT sector can significantly mitigate its environmental impact and contribute to global sustainability efforts.
