Baku: The Abad neighborhood mini-football tournament, dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the Glorious Victory in the Patriotic War, has concluded. Jointly organized by the Baku City Executive Power, the Regional Development Public Union, and the Baku City Youth and Sports Department, the event aimed to promote patriotism and a healthy lifestyle among teenagers.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the tournament featured teenagers born in 2013-2014 and spanned two stages: district and city. A total of 123 teams, comprising 1,266 teenage athletes, participated in the competition, which followed the Olympic system. The matches took place at mini-football stadiums in the Abad neighborhoods, part of the ‘Our Yard’ project initiated by Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder of IDEA Public Union.
The first round concluded in Baku’s districts by October 24, leading to the city stage featuring the district winners. National-level referees oversaw the tournament, which culminated
in final matches on October 31. The event began with performances by popular singers Chinara Melikzade and Ilhama Gasimova, followed by an official opening ceremony.
In the final game, Yasamal district’s team defeated Sabunchu district’s team with a score of 7:5, emerging as the tournament winners. The victorious team received Honorary Decrees and valuable gifts. The event concluded with fireworks and a commemorative photo session.
