BAKU: Azerbaijan faced double standards and disinformation campaigns during preparations for COP29, according to Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan. Gafarova made these remarks at a Parliamentary Meeting organized in collaboration with the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Milli Majlis within the framework of COP29.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Sahiba Gafarova expressed regret over the biased and unfounded accusations that Azerbaijan faced from certain states and media platforms during the COP29 preparations. She emphasized the importance of dialogue, cooperation, and solidarity in addressing common challenges and criticized those who used the climate change platform for narrow interests and politically motivated ambitions.
Despite these challenges, Gafarova noted that COP29 has successfully begun its work, engaging all relevant stakeholders. She highlighted that the Parliamentary Meeting took place after the World Leaders Climate Action Summit and other signifi
cant events. The COP29 Presidency introduced 14 initiatives and an Action Agenda resulting from an inclusive process, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to global climate action.
As discussions continue, Gafarova mentioned that some important outcomes have already been achieved, marking progress in the global efforts to address climate change.
