Moscow: A weak magnetic storm predicted by scientists began on Earth on January 2, the Institute of Applied Geophysics (IFG) told TASS, APA reports. Currently, the degree of disturbance of the Earth’s magnetic field (power) is at level G1 on a scale of five levels, where G5 is “extremely strong” and G1 is “weak”.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, this event marks the start of a period of geomagnetic activity that scientists have been monitoring closely. While the storm is categorized as weak, it serves as an important reminder of the dynamic nature of Earth’s interaction with solar activity. The classification of G1 indicates that there may be minor impacts on satellite operations and power grids, although significant disruptions are not expected.
Researchers at the Institute of Applied Geophysics continue to observe the storm’s progress, providing updates as necessary. The monitoring of geomagnetic storms is crucial for understanding their potential effects on both technology and natural phenomena on Earth.
