Leyla Aliyeva and Ales Musar Discuss Humanitarian Efforts and Environmental Concerns in New York

New york: Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, met with Ales Musar, the spouse of the Slovenian President, in New York on September 25, upon Musar’s request. During this meeting, several key humanitarian and environmental issues were discussed.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Ales Musar shared insights about the ITF Enhancing Human Security, a Slovenian government-established humanitarian non-profit organization that has been supporting mine victims since 1998. Musar’s discussion highlighted the organization’s ongoing global efforts to enhance human security.

Leyla Aliyeva addressed the pressing mine problems in Azerbaijan, which significantly hinder the nation’s restoration and reconstruction initiatives in liberated territories. These territories are crucial for the ‘Great Return’ Program, aimed at repatriating former internally displaced persons. Despite the challenges, Aliyeva emphasized Azerbaijan’s commitment to conducting humanitarian demining operations, assisting mine victims, and raising awareness about explosive ordnance dangers.

The conversation also ventured into environmental concerns, such as global water scarcity and the declining water levels of the Caspian Sea. The significance of the Bled Water Forum in Slovenia was underscored as a platform for addressing these critical issues.

The meeting concluded with discussions on potential cooperation between Azerbaijan and Slovenia in both humanitarian and environmental sectors, reflecting a mutual interest in addressing shared global challenges.
