Astana: The discovery of a dead body and parts of a military helicopter in a lake has been confirmed by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations. The ministry’s announcement comes after extensive search efforts to locate the missing aircraft.
According to Nam News Network, mathematical calculations based on satellite data were instrumental in identifying the probable location of the missing helicopter. Once the location was approximated, search teams equipped with specialized gear were deployed. Divers subsequently discovered partial wreckage of the helicopter and a corpse at a depth of around 14 meters. Identification of the body is currently in progress.
The search operation is facing challenges due to poor underwater visibility and the presence of silt deposits. The helicopter, an EC-145, went off radar on July 25 with three crew members aboard. Space monitoring identified an oily slick on the lake’s surface, leading rescuers to find fragments of the aircraft the following day. These fragments are thought to belong to the Air Defence Forces.
