Astana: Sanzhar Zharkeshov has been appointed as the new Deputy Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, as per a recent decree by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
According to Trend News Agency, Sanzhar Zharkeshov’s academic background includes a degree from the Kazakh University of Economics, Finance and International Trade, completed in 2009, and further studies at the University of Texas at Austin, US, in 2010. Zharkeshov’s career began as a research engineer at the “Center for Oil and Geosystem Engineering” in Austin, Texas, where he focused on enhanced oil and gas recovery through chemical technologies between 2008 and 2010.
Zharkeshov has held significant positions in the energy sector of Kazakhstan. Since February 2022, he served as the acting Chairman of the Board of QazaqGaz, and from March 2022 to August 2025, he held the position of Chairman of the Board of NC QazaqGaz. His leadership in these roles was marked by contributions to the development of Kazakhstan’s gas industry.
It was also announced that Alibek Zhamauov has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Board of QazaqGaz. Nurlan Zhakupov, Chairman of the Board of the Samruk-Kazyna fund, introduced Zhamauov to the national company’s team and expressed gratitude to Zharkeshov for his work. Previously, the role of Vice Minister of Energy was held by Zhamauov.
