Kazakhstan Advocates for UN System Reform – President Tokayev

Ashgabat: Kazakhstan advocates for reform of the United Nations (UN) system, including expanding the membership of the Security Council and strengthening the role of the General Assembly, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said at the International Peace and Trust Forum.

According to Trend News Agency, President Tokayev emphasized the need for a collaborative effort in reshaping the UN system. During the 80th session of the General Assembly, he proposed the creation of a group of like-minded individuals to develop concrete reform proposals. He highlighted the importance of major powers showing political will, urging UN member states to engage in large-scale dialogue, exhibit strategic restraint, and be willing to reach difficult compromises.

Kazakhstan also supports the initiative to establish a UN University of Peace and Neutrality. President Tokayev stressed that a just and sustainable world order can only be achieved when narratives of inevitable global confrontation and nuclear war are abandoned in favor of using the language of peace, trust, and cooperation.
