Izmir: The Days of Azerbaijan, currently taking place in Izmir, Trkiye, commemorates the 40th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Baku and Izmir with an engaging and diverse program.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the Izmir Azerbaijan Association (IZAZDER) organized an event that brought together notable figures such as Rashad Mammadov, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Trkiye, Vedat Yilmaz, Governor of Izmir’s Menemen district, IZAZDER members, and other public figures. The event emphasized the significance of the twinning agreement signed on April 29, 1986, which established the sister-city relationship between Baku and Izmir.
In his speech, IZAZDER Chairman Parviz Altay highlighted the importance of instilling the “one nation, two states” ethos in future generations. He also paid homage to National Leader Heydar Aliyev and Mustafa Kemal Atatrk, acknowledging their pivotal roles in shaping the vision for the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).
The event featured a panel discussion commemorating the 103rd anniversary of Heydar Aliyev. Ambassador Rashad Mammadov and Professor Vafa Gurban spoke at the panel, emphasizing Heydar Aliyev’s significant contributions to fostering relations between Azerbaijan and Trkiye, which have evolved into a strategic partnership. The Azerbaijani diplomat pointed out key areas of bilateral cooperation, including the defense industry, green energy, and digital transformation.
Following the discussions, the event concluded with an artistic program, celebrating the enduring ties between the two cities.
