BAKU: In an exclusive interview, Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), emphasized Azerbaijan’s proactive stance in addressing climate issues in Central Asia and its significance in the upcoming COP29 summit. He outlined several initiatives underway with the COP29 Presidency, highlighting a forthcoming event and the launch of an investment forum in Azerbaijan during next year’s Energy Week as key steps toward resolving regional climate challenges.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, La Camera expressed optimism about achieving the new 25 financial targets at COP29, noting the close collaboration with co-chairs and the importance of mutual trust. COP29 is viewed as a pivotal moment for reviewing progress and showcasing positive outcomes in climate finance. La Camera underscored the belief that COP29 would be the venue where these targets are finally agreed upon.

La Camera also detailed IRENA’s contributions to COP29, which include a comprehensive report
already submitted. This document outlines IRENA’s activities and efforts towards decarbonization, reflecting its cooperation with Azerbaijan. The Director-General expressed satisfaction with the ongoing process and the hope for a favorable outcome from these collaborative efforts.

Regarding Azerbaijan’s renewable energy activities, La Camera confirmed IRENA’s full support, particularly in project financing and close collaboration with the country’s Minister of Energy. The cooperation encompasses planning, project development, and transition initiatives, underscoring IRENA’s commitment to facilitating Azerbaijan’s renewable energy advancements.
