Iran Confirms Participation in 2026 FIFA World Cup

Tehran: Iran will take part in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as confirmed by Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani during a press conference today.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Mohajerani announced that preparations for Iran’s participation in the tournament are underway, putting to rest earlier statements by Iran’s Minister of Sports, Ahmad Donyamali, who had declared that Iran would not be participating due to unsuitable security conditions.

U.S. President Donald Trump had also expressed concerns regarding the appropriateness of Iran’s participation from a safety and security standpoint. Despite these concerns, the Iranian national team is set to compete in the World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico in the summer of 2026.

Iran is slated to compete in Group G, where they will face off against Belgium, Egypt, and New Zealand as part of the tournament.
