International Carpet Festival Kicks Off in Baku

Baku: The festival, organized by ‘Azerkhalcha’ OJSC and the ‘Icherisheher’ State Historical-Architectural Reserve Administration, with the support of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Economy and the Export and Investment Promotion Agency – AZPROMO, aims to promote Azerbaijani carpet weaving globally, showcase its heritage and future potential, and bring together international carpet professionals.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, in his opening remarks, Chairman of ‘Azerkhalcha’ OJSC, Honored Art Worker Emin Mammadov noted that the forum held as part of the International Carpet Festival provides an important platform for discussions and experience-sharing. He emphasized that the forum brings together both local audiences and international guests, adding that participants from Morocco, Nepal, Trkiye, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and other countries are exchanging views on promoting carpet art in international markets and integrating handicrafts into the global economy.

Highlighting the importance of the forum,
he noted that it serves as a valuable opportunity for strengthening cooperation and sharing expertise in the field. Emin Mammadov emphasized that the festival is vital for promoting Azerbaijani carpet weaving, preserving its heritage, and passing it on to future generations, while also supporting industry development, international cooperation, and economic growth.

Other speakers described Azerbaijani carpet weaving as an important part of the country’s cultural heritage, noting that the state is actively working to preserve and develop it through various projects and international cooperation. The International Carpet Forum, titled ‘Carpet Industry: Value, Design and Competitiveness,’ has commenced as part of the event, bringing together global experts and industry representatives. Held for the second time, it serves as a platform to turn handwoven carpets into globally competitive products.

The festival, running until May 3, offers a rich program including exhibitions, masterclasses, concerts, and educati
onal activities for children.
